The sixth season of the Mokokchung Football League 35+ kicked off on Saturday, April 12, at the Rempukong Football Turf in Ungma. The inaugural programme was graced by Imkongsanen, Councillor of the Mokokchung Municipal Council, who attended as the Special Guest.
The opening day witnessed three matches, marking the beginning of a league that will span 25 game weeks and feature 75 matches throughout the year.
In the first match of the season, Wasang FC dominated Nova Sporting Club with a commanding 6–0 victory, setting the tone for the season. The second match saw Terokroker FC edge past Trebuchet FC with a narrow 1–0 win, while the final match of the day had New Ecclesia upsetting defending champions Revenant FC with a 2–1 scoreline.
A key highlight of this year’s season is the introduction of the “Player of the Match” award for every game—a new addition sponsored by Sentiyanger, Proprietor of Unique Bakery, Mokokchung.
Jamonger of Wasang FC was named Player of the Match for the first game while Moakaba Imchen of Trebuchet FC received the honor for the second game and Nükshi Kichu of New Ecclesia was recognized for his performance in the final match.
Now in its sixth edition, the MFL 35+ is designed exclusively for players aged 35 and above, promotes Friendship, Fellowship, and Fitness through sport.
Matches will continue to be held every Saturday in a points league format at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex.
