3.77 lakh beneficiaries under ICDS in Nagaland

The Integrated Child Development Services Scheme (ICDS) covers 3.77 lakh beneficiaries in Nagaland, according to the Nagaland Economic Survey 2016-17.  

Under the ICDS, supplementary nutrition, pre-school non formal education, nutrition and health education, immunization, health check up and referral services are provided.  

The beneficiaries under the schemes are children in the age group of 0-6 years, pregnant women and lactating mothers. There are 60 ICDS projects and nine district ICDS cells operating in the state through 3455 Anganwadi Centres covering the 3.77 lakh beneficiaries. As per the report, the number of Anganwadi beneficiaries in the 0-6 age group was 3,21,280 while pregnant and lactating mothers numbered 55, 046.    

Supplementary Nutrition Programme

Under this program, various supplementary nutrition items such as micronutrient fortified Kichiri, Kheer and weaning food were distributed to the 3.77 lakh beneficiaries consisting of children, pregnant women and lactating mothers through the 3444 Anganwadi centres.  

Sneha Shivir programme

Sneha Shivir is a new intervention programme introduced in 2015, for 200 high burden districts in the country. In Nagaland, Phek district has been selected due to high incidence of malnourished children. Quick rehabilitation of undernourished children and prevention of further malnourishment by changing behaviors in child care, feeding and health care are the primary goals of the programme.  

25,568 adolescent girls covered under KSY

Kishore Shakti Yojana is a holistic initiative for development and empowerment of non-school going and school drop-out adolescent girls between the age group of 11 to 18 years. Till date 25,568 adolescent girls have been covered in the non SABLA eight districts.    

18,755 beneficiaries under RGSEAG

The Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls (RGSEAG) for adolescent girls from 11 to 18 years of age is being implemented in the state on an experimental basis in 19 ICDS projects under Kohima, Mon and Tuensang districts. As of date, this scheme has covered 18,755 beneficiaries.  

1,938 mothers benefited under IGMSY

During the last five years, the Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Jojana IGMSY) has benefited 1,938 mothers in the state. This programme for pregnant women and lactating mothers is currently implemented as a pilot project in Kohima district.  

Financial assistance is provided to pregnant women and lactating mothers as maternity benefit- Rs. 3000 for pre-delivery and another Rs. 3000 after delivery, according to Nagaland Economic Survey 2016-17.
