3rd Inter School TT tourney kicks off

Kohima, April 19 (MExN): The 3rd Inter School Table Tennis tournament Kohima, kick started today at indoor stadium here at Kohima with Commissioner secretary to Government of Nagaland, Temjen Toy IAS,  gracing the inaugural function as the chief guest that was organized by Kohima district Table Tennis Association (KDTTA). Addressing the gathering, the chief guest congratulated KDTTA for the successful conduct of the tournament for three consecutive years. Asserting that Nagas are sports lover in any discipline and even watching, however, Toy said Nagas lack perseverance and discipline. He stated that ‘Nagas pick up soon but gives up soon as well”, and urged the students to focus on perseverance and discipline as TT is one such game that Nagas can really excel as it is a game of neutral height players.
Nagas still remember Dr.T. Ao for his excellence in sports however the benchmark he laid for the Nagas has not been substituted by the younger generations noted Toy adding that Naga sports person excels in many field but the players does not pay serious attention to what they are into. He also opined that the young players should not look only at glamorous side but should be sincere and dedicated in any of their work and also not to be discouraged when things do not fall in the right track.
Toy expressed his positive hope that the two days tournament will be a starting point for the young players to excel through the tournament. President, KDTTA in his welcome address said the tournament is being organized under three objectives- to change the mindset of the students by developing physical and mental health for better studies, to build better relationship and understanding among the schools and to change the life style of the young people by abstaining from anti social elements who can be a contributor to the society.
Altogether ten schools and 45 players are taking part in the two days event. Final match will be played tomorrow at Indoor stadium Kohima at 2.00 pm.
