The third edition of the Nagaland State Futsal Championship officially kicked off on the evening of October 17 at JJ Arena, Chümoukedima with Nagaland Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio gracing the occasion as its special guest.

Organised by the Nagaland Football Association (NFA) and hosted by the Chümoukedima District Football Association (CDFA), the tournament will take place from October 17 to 20 with 16 teams confirming their participation.

In his address to the gathering, the Advisor viewed that although futsal as a game was relatively new in its introduction to the state; its popularity has grown massively in the last few years. “This is one discipline where our Naga youths can excel at and make a mark not only in the country but even at international level,” he said.

Moreover as it is regarded as a fast-paced, technical game, he stated that local players needed to be dedicated and committed in their efforts. “Without discipline or commitment none can do well in sports,” he added.

He also encouraged the players to showcase their best skills as the winning team will get the opportunity to represent the state at the national level.
Meanwhile, President of NFA, Neibou Sekhose shared about the importance of fostering unity and camaraderie through sports. “We need to ponder and perhaps make a beginning of having more tournament so that the people of the State may come together more often in the spirit of unity,” he mentioned.

He also noted that in order for one to be the best or on the top, they need to walk the extra mile and not only depend on the government, club or association.

The four day tournament is slated to be played in group stages first, followed by quarter and semi finals with the two best teams vying for the coveted trophy on the last day.
