Kohima, September 9 (MExN): The 3rd Quarterly National Lok Adalat (People’s Court) for the year 2025 will be held across all district headquarters in Nagaland on September 13 under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA).

According to NSLSA, 11 Lok Adalat Benches will be set up by the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) across Nagaland.

As per the provisions of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, read with the National Legal Services Authority (Lok Adalats) Regulations, 2009, four National Lok Adalats are conducted annually by the DLSAs under the State Legal Services Authority.

Generally, pre-litigation and pending cases are taken up for settlement in the National Lok Adalats, which act as alternative dispute resolution forum and cases are settled/ compromised amicably. 

These include civil and criminal compoundable cases such as those under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act; money recovery cases; motor accident claim cases; labour disputes; disputes relating to public utility services (electricity and water bills, excluding non-compoundable matters); matrimonial and family disputes (except divorce); and land acquisition cases.

Service matters including pension issues; revenue and other ancillary matters pending before High Court, district courts and state/district/taluka authorities; IPR and consumer matters; and cases before other quasi-judicial authorities are also taken up during the quarterly sitting. 

Other civil cases such as those relating to rent, easementary rights, injunctions, and specific performance suits may also be taken up.

As per the NSLSA, during the 2nd Quarterly National Lok Adalat held on May 10, 2025, a total of 290 cases were taken up, out of which 219 were disposed of with a settlement amount of Rs 2,38,99,111.
