4 lakh bogus voters in Nagaland

Kohima, September 27 (DIPR): Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Nagaland today informed that out of the 11.2 lakh voters in the State, 4 lakh were “bogus” and that the Election Department has been conducting meetings with various stakeholders and groups of people to ensure that multiple and bogus entries etc. in the E-Roll are removed.  

Speaking at the meeting on Special Summary Revision Electoral Rolls 2017 with State political parties at Hotel Japfü, Kohima, the CEO also requested the political parties to extend active cooperation, participation and support to various processes of the Special Summary Revision exercise. "If we are determined, we can really make a change," he expressed.  

Meanwhile, Deputy CEO, Vekho Vero said that physically challenged persons who have attained 18 years of age and are not included in the E-Roll are eligible to register in the E-Roll. He said that the BLOs will do some exercise to include them in the E-Roll and even if they are registered, the officials will verify the nature of disability so they would be provided assistance to enable them to reach the polling stations.  

Briefing on the procedural matters on Special Summary Revision, ACEO, Awa Lorin said that the Special Summary Revision is an annual feature and exercise of the Election Commission where the E-Rolls are updated. He said that State level launching ceremony will be held on October 1 under the Commission’s theme "No voter to be left behind" at Hotel Japfü, Kohima with various stakeholders, NGOs and political parties.
