KOHIMA, JUNE 18 (MExN): The construction work at the 4-lane bridge over Sonorou River will continue without disruption. This was agreed upon when the PWD (R&B) officials along with contractors and landowners recently visited the site on which a 4 lane RCC bridge is to be constructed. It was agreed upon that “the bridge construction work should continue without interruptions and be completed at the earliest," a press release informed.
The release from the Executive Engineer, PWD (R&B) informed that once the bridge substructure work has started, the subway road has to be closed for vehicle movement. Till such time the subway is closed, restriction barrier for heavy and medium vehicles shall be erected at both ends of the subway. It was informed that the Executive Engineer, PWD (R&B) South Division would make necessary arrangements in co-ordination with the administration and traffic Police.
Meanwhile, during a meeting held on June 13 with the contractors and the landowners of the bridge area, the landowners, contrary to earlier reports, reportedly stated that “at no point of time they had stopped/hindered the work.” The department stated that there must have been a communication gap regarding the same. “However, on getting the clarification from the Landowners of the bridge area present in the meeting, the Department acknowledged the fact that they were not obstructing/hindering the works at the bridge site. Further, they stated that they shall help resolve any issue that may arise from any quarter regarding the land,” the press note said.
The department has appealed to the public and commuters to co-operate and bear with the inconveniences caused in the course of construction of the bridge.
