Newmai News Network Imphal | April 10 Leaders of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) today visited the landslide hit Sirarakhong village under Chingai constituency of Ukhrul district and assured financial assistance to the victims. The massive landslide that hit Sirarakhong village on April 5 damaged four houses beyond repair including that of the village chief. The new BJP government in Manipur has already announced to resettle those displaced in the landslide caused by heavy rainfall. MPCC president TN Haokip led the team in the visit to the remote village where it met the landslide victims and villagers. Haokip told the villagers that there is no difference between the ruling and opposition parties at the time of major adverse events such as the one that has affected Sirarakhong. Haokip said houses belonging to more than 40 families of the village are situated in risk zones. He assured that MPCC will take the opportunity to urge the state government to evacuate these families to resettle them in suitable land with housing facility. Stating that destruction of flora and fauna increases the risk of natural calamities, the PCC chief also urged the villagers to know and understand the importance of plants and animals.
