Deputy Chief Minister Y. Patton who holds home portfolio today said that 409 constables were appointed from January 1, 2018 upto June 30, 2019.
Patton replied this to MLA Dr. Chotisuh Sazo on the floor of the House in starred question.
The tribe wise appointment as furnished by the deputy chief minister includes; Angami- 39, Ao- 62, Garo- 1, Kachari- 3, Lotha- 35, Rengma- 2, Sumi- 26, Chakhesang- 91, Chang- 18, Khiamniungan- 20, Konyak- 51, Phom- 7, Pochury- 2, Sangtam- 9, Yimchunger – 18, Zeliang- 22 and others- 3.
On method of recruitment, Patton said that the government has constituted a screening/ recommendation committee headed by IGP(Hqr) who would scrutinize all the applications and forward all such eligible applications to the respective Police Units.
Further, the Unit Commanders would appoint fit candidates as per the process laid down only against the clear existing vacancies.
On being asked whether 37% backward reservation has been maintained in appointment or not, the minister said that out of 409 constables appointed in the relevant period, the total number of candidates of the backward tribe was 58%.
