42nd AKTM general conference-cum-sports meet begins

MOKOKCHUNG, JANUARY 8 (MExN): The 42nd General Conference-cum-Sports Meet of the Asetkong Students’ Conference or Asetkong Kaketshir Telongjem Mungdang (AKTM) got underway today at Kubolong Sub-Divisional headquarter under Mokokchung District. More than 400 delegates from seven federating units of AKTM are camping at Kubolong to attend the three-day General Conference-cum-Sports Meet.
The sports activities got underway today with Kubolong CDPO, Imliyanger as chief patron which will go on till tomorrow. Prize distributions of the sports meet will be held tomorrow evening along with a cultural extravaganza while January 10 has been reserved for a day-long general conference. The sports meet features Table Tennis Boys Singles, Table Tennis Girls Singles, Table Tennis Mixed Doubles, Football Boys, Volleyball Boys, Basketball Boys and Basketball Girls which are being played in the knock-out format.
The chief patron while addressing the students underscored Asetkong as an important range in the Ao land which he said has produced many eminent leaders and luminaries and urged the students to remain progressive and continue to keep up with the legacy of Asetkong range as responsible students. Stating that the students were the future of the land, he urged them to work hard to achieve their vision. He also lamented that albeit the advancement in technology, the current generation was living in a world of confusion and rumors and that technology has been misused. He advised the students not to be addicted to virtual games and other applications that impede achieving one’s life goals. He also urged the players to give their best and demonstrate the spirit of sportsmanship.
AKM President, Imkongwati, who also exhorted the students at the inaugural function challenged the Asetkong students and asked them how prepared they were to achieve what their predecessors had achieved in the past. Oath taking ceremony for the players was administered by Reshiba, Games and Sports Secretary of AKTM.
