The Li-Ning 45th Nagaland State Masters Open Badminton Championship 2023 began at the DBC Indoor Stadium, Dimapur on November 9. The 3-day state championship, hosted by the Dimapur District Badminton Association, will feature 118 players from 12 teams– 11 district teams and 1 Nagaland Police team, slogging it out in the men’s singles and doubles in the 35+, 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+ and 60+ age categories. The championship, coinciding with the Nagaland Badminton Association’s golden jubilee commemoration, carries a total cash prize of Rs 8.5 lakhs. 

Zasivikho Zakiesato, President of the Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation, who was the special guest at the inaugural function, today, called for a collective effort to promote badminton in the state. Terming what he said was the sport aligning well with the “Naga physical structure,” he said, “Let it be a commitment for all of us gathered here to promote this beautiful game… so that we can produce our very own champions from our state.”

He further said that the competitive categories, ranging from 35 to 60 years displays dedication to fitness even as the years progress.
