46th EGC Open Volleyball Tournament underway

The 46th edition of the EGC Open Volleyball tournament 2022 organized by Evergreen Club, Ungma village got underway at Soyim Aonglenden, Ungma, Mokokchung with Er Zalie Neikha, Advisor, Youth Resources & Sports, gracing the inaugural programme as the guest of honour in the presence of the chief host, Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker, NLA.

In his inaugural address, the Youth Resources & Sports Advisor said that Nagaland has improved tremendously in the sports field, citing the number of medals won by Nagaland team in the recently concluded NE Olympic games. At the previous NE Olympic games, Nagaland won only 40 medals, but this year the medal count has doubled, he noted.

He said that volleyball or any team sport is about teamwork and encouraged the Evergreen Club to work better as they prepare for their jubilee celebration in the next few years.

Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker, NLA and Imtidongba Jamir, Ungma Village Council, also spoke at the inaugural function. The oath taking was initiated by Imsutoshi Longkumer, Sports Secretary, EGC, and the tournament was declared open by the guest of honor.

The first match of the tournament was played between Changtongya Volleyball Association and Longterol Senden Ungma. In total, 13 teams will be participating in the tournament, which will conclude on December 17.
