
DIMAPUR, MAY 9 (MExN): In continuation with ‘Operation Kohima Calling’ to evacuate stranded Naga students, families from violence-hit Manipur, the 1 Assam Rifles entrusted to evacuate the remaining stranded students and families on May 9 picked-up 47 Naga women from Yoripok, Thoubal in Manipur.
A press release issued by the PRO Defence, IGAR North informed that all those evacuated Nagas belonged to the Konyak community. They were working on hourly wage basis in a veneer factory.
“All 47 Konyak girls from Yoripok, Thoubal have been evacuated by the Assam Rifles under IGAR North.
"All are safe,” the press release received from the AR stated.
Meanwhile, the AR informed that with more Naga individuals stranded in Manipur contacting the AR team, it has decided to halt for the day in Imphal and would return only on May 10 after evacuating the rest who had contacted them.
