Union Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, Pratima Bhoumik termed the north-eastern states as the ‘Asthalaxmi’ of India. Bhoumik made the statement speaking at the Nagaland leg of the 6th nationwide Rozgar Mela on June 13, where appointment letters were handed over to new recruits to various government departments.

In Nagaland, it was hosted by the SBI Regional Office, Dimapur, at the IMC Hall, where the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address the fresh recruits was also streamed live.

While claiming that the region has made significant progress in terms of connectivity in the last 9 years, Bhoumik compared the eight states of the northeast to Asthalaxmi, representing the eight manifestations of Goddess Laxmi, which symbolises prosperity. She referred to a perceived shift in the paradigm of development. “Earlier we used to see developments happening in cities like Delhi, Mumbai etc, but now we have AIIMS and Vande Bharat in northeast,” she said.

Enumerating the achievements of the government's schemes, the Minister noted the significant progress made in the past nine years. She then listed initiatives like the Startup India, Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission and Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana as examples of transformative schemes that have positively impacted various sectors.

According to her, the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been to expedite the recruitment process by way of reducing the duration of recruitment from more than a year and a half to a few months.

While informing that more than 70,000 individuals given appointment letters on June 13, she maintained that the government's commitment has been to generate employment opportunities. At the Dimapur event, Bhoumik handed away appointment letters to 48 recruits.

She highlighted the opportunities available for the recruits to receive training through the Karmayogi portal and encouraged the recruits to work together to propel India to greater heights.

She further reminded that the country today boasts of more than 90,000 startups and over 100 unicorns. India, which was once a major importer of mobiles, has now become the second-largest exporter of mobile devices globally, she added.
