48 MSW students graduate from NEISSR

The graduates with guests and others during the NEISSR, Dimapur 5th graduation day for the MSW Batch 2018-20 held at the NEISSR Conference Hall on December 8.

Dimapur, December 8 (MExN): North East Institute Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Dimapur celebrated the 5th graduation day for the MSW Batch 2018-20 at the NEISSR Conference Hall on December 8. Out of the 48 graduates 39 were present for the graduation ceremony. 

Function with restricted number of guests and participants was graced by Apok Jamir, former Member of Parliament as the special guest of the occasion, Most Rev Dr James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima Diocese, Thomas Kikon, Vice President, Naga Hoho as the Chairman and member of Governing Board of NEISSR, respectively. Rev Fr Benny Varghese, Former Administrator, St Joseph College, Jakhama, and Rev Moses Murry, President Christian Forum Dimapur were also present to grace the occasion. 

Dr Fr CP Anto in the welcome address said that NEISSR was established as a unique MSW institute to provide three areas of specializations including peace and conflict transformation studies, youth development studies, and community development which are tailor cut to the specific conflict and development issues of Nagaland in particular and north-eastern region in general. Efforts to up update the curriculum adapting to the challenge of the time is an ongoing processes in preparing the batch youth in serving the society. Congratulating the graduating students batch 2018-2020 he said their performance have raised image of the institution in the country.

Most Rev Dr James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima Diocese and the Chairman of NEISSER, in his message exhorted the graduates to uphold the principle of non-violence and strive for just society on the path the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi.

The special guest, Apok Jamir pointed out that the world is confronted with challenges in the most unexpected ways by COVID-19 pandemic to remind us the importance of health care in life is more than wealth and political power. At such situation, when human survival is threatened as never before he exhorted the students to turn to God and be firmly rooted never to be diverted from his path and urged the students to put their hearts and soul as agents for transforming the society.

E. Thomas Kikon, member of the governing board NEISSR, and Vice President of Naga Hoho advised the students to use the knowledge and skills in a practical way to be agents for change; and by being employers creating opportunities and services instead running for jobs. He also reminded the students that government and agencies are ready to support projects that are genuine.  

Felicitating the Graduation ceremony Dr Deben Bachaspatimayum, Assistant Professor and coordinator Peace and Conflict Transformation Studies (PCTS) encouraged the passing out students to work to the fullest potentials of unique life each is blessed with.
