The 48th General Conference of Wozhuro Range Students' Union (WRSU) was held on January 17 last with the theme "Breaking excellence beyond horizon" at Wozhuro ground under Wokha district.

Gracing the conference as the chief guest, Wonthungo Tsopoe, Director of School Education said that Wozhiiro by name itself is very unique in many ways.

“People outside our community look upon us as pioneers in many fields such as religion, education, social and cultural etc.,” he said.

He urged upon the students and also all the leaders present to introspect the challenges bestowed with all seriousness.

“We have more responsibilities towards our people than any other Lotha brothers and sisters. Our forefathers were not well educated but were cultured and they sacrificed everything for our future. Let us make ourselves a legacy of unity, honesty, hospitality and hard working people. These are some of the catch words that are missing among us today,” he said.

While explaining about cultural trait, he said culture includes language, apparel, food habit and ethical, moral and social values that govern a set of society. Preserving one’s culture is a very important duty as our root is the culture that we profess, he said while adding that a good culture exhibit progress and is the reflection of one’s identity.

On occasion such as today, traditional attires should be encouraged to us by one and all. Use of our own language should be our priority instead of communicating in English, he said.

Tsopoe also pointed to the need for protection of flora and fauna and preservation of wild life, deforestation and its impact for our society and appealed the Union to adopt a resolution in this regard.

Noting that education is the only weapon that can transform a society, the School Education Director urged all students to invest time in studies judiciously with hard work and positive attitude.

“Students spend so much time in media and they even forget their own priority like health, studies and family relationship. Their communications with people around them become less active,” he regretted.

He said one of the acute problems the present generation is facing is spending too much time on computer and browsing of internet and addiction to mobile games.

“We all know we cannot live without it however its negative impact spoils the child spiritually, physically and mentally. To save this generation from such evils, student bodies can play a proactive role in disseminating information to the various schools so as to change the behaviour of the youngsters,” Tsopoe said.

He also appreciated the role played by WRSU for inspecting the schools and offices under Wozhuro circle. He also requested all village councils to give all possible support to the student community.

Further, he applauded Wozhiiro Range Public Organization and WRSU in developing cordial relationship with neighbouring community - the Rengma Nagas.
