CYO are football champs, SASA lift volleyball title

The Chakhroma Youth Organization (CYO) today lifted the men’s football trophy of the 49th Angami Sports Association (ASA) meet at Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima.

CYO defeated Northern Angami Sports Association (NASA) 2-0 in the final to win the title and received a cash prize of Rs. 30,000. Runner-up NASA were awarded Rs. 20,000.

Semi finalists Southern Angami Sports Association (SASA) and Western Angami Youth Organization (WAYO) received Rs. 10,000 each.

In women’s volleyball, SASA emerged as the champion after defeating WAYO in the final. SASA were awarded Rs. 20,000 along with a trophy while WAYO pocketed Rs. 10,000.

Semi finalists CYO and NASA were awarded Rs. 5000 each.

Medo Yhokha, Advisor, Technical Education and Election graced the valedictory function as the guest of honour and gave away prize to the winners. He urged the youth to recommit and rededicate themselves and strive for excellence.

“We need excellence, professionalism and meritocracy,” he told the youth and urged them to give their best and excel in the field of games and sports.

He said that the PDA government under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has designed various policies and programmes for holistic growth of the youth of the state. In this, he called upon the youth to come forward and exhibit their skills in the right way and access the various facilities and opportunities being extended by the government.

Earlier, Zhaleo Rio, Advisor, Sericulture, Excise & Minority Affairs graced the inaugural function as the special guest. Rio said that any sportsperson can become an international star provided he/she is committed.

ASA President, Lhoubeizo Kesiyie said that the 50th meet of ASA will take place in 2022, which will be a special celebration of the association. This year’s meet was reduced to a one-day event consisting of men’s football and women’s volleyball events only due to the pandemic.

Kohima District Football Referee Association and Kohima District Volleyball Association officiated the meet. 

The inaugural function was chaired by ASA Vice President (Organization) Viketouzo Meyase while ASA Vice President (Administration) Zapranei Mekro chaired the closing function. ASA Games Secretary Kelhouneisa Khezhie administered oath to the participating teams.

Vote of thanks was proposed by ASA General Secretary Seyielhouvi Nagi. Kevikhrielie Rio and Neikeso Zumu sponsored the meet.
