The 4th Mon International Trade Fair and Expo 2024 got underway at Mon Town Local Ground on January 5 under the initiative of district administration, Mon led by Deputy Commissioner.

It was inaugurated by S Phangnon Konyak, MP Rajya Sabha in presence of Wangpang Konyak, MLA 43 Tapi AC, Ajit Kumar Verma, Deputy Commissioner, Mon and other government officers, civil society leaders and public leaders.

Addressing the inaugural function, Phangnon lauded the efforts of district administration, Mon led by DC for organising such a grand event in remotest district like Mon which will ultimately benefit all the stakeholders in product promotion, market development, branding and economic upliftment of local entrepreneurs.

She maintained that promotion of local products and talents is crucial for economic growth and development of the district. In this, she said, exhibitions and trade fair like MITFE should be promoted and organized regularly.

Highlighting various welfare schemes of Government of India, she also talked about ongoing Vikshit Bharat Sankalp Yatra and appealed all the public to actively participate and avail the benefit from these welfare schemes.

MLA Wangpang highlighted the advantage of MITFE-2024 and expected that it will be beneficial for the local economy and promote entrepreneurship among the local population especially youth. He also appealed the people to actively participate and learn the new arts, techniques, crafts and talents from various participants coming from various part of the country.

Earlier, in welcome address, Verma said that the 14 days Expo will continue till January 18.

Besides exhibition of stalls, the expo will also feature performances from renowned artists, singers and bands. MITFE has been conceptualised to provide a common platform to various artisans, singers, performers and to promote local art, craft and talents. He said the expo will facilitate marketing network and develop brand promotion channel of various products from micro and small entrepreneurs.

Also speaking on the occasion, Tingtok Konyak, President, Konyak Union thanked the District Administration for their effort in promoting local products, brands, cultural and traditional heritage by organizing such grand event. He assured his full support to the organizer and wished for a successful event in coming days.

The inaugural function also featured cultural performance by Hamho Ukhong and Bamboo dance by Hongphoi Group, special number by Phangmei Yanlem and Chahwang group. Vote of thanks was proposed by L Mongo Khiamniungan, SDO(C) Mon.
