DIMAPUR, AUGUST 3 (MExN): The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Longleng under ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland centre conducted five days skill oriented training programme on IPM and IDM (Integrated Pest/Disease Management) in field crops from July 28 to August 1 at KVK office, Longleng.
E Lireni Kikon, SMS (Plant Protection), course coordinator of the programme gave detail training on IPM, its objectives and the IPM technologies: IPM and IDM on paddy, maize and pulse crops. Indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides has led to the destruction of beneficial organisms, resistance against pesticides, pesticide residues in food chains etc.
A film was screened on different IPM technologies by different institutes; compost pit making was also shown. Field visit was organised by course co-ordinator on the fourth day in farmer’s field as part of the programme, where the identification of natural enemies and insect pest and disease; diseased symptoms were collected and explained to the farmers. Preparation and application of pesticide and its uses were also demonstrated. Dr. Manoj Kumar, SMS (Agronomy), spoke on Production Technology of Lowland Paddy and A Namei, SRF, on Nutrient Management in Rice Field.
Valedictory programme was conducted on the last day which was chaired by Thungchano S Ezung, PA (H/Sc). During farmer’s scientist interaction on valedictory programme, the trainees expressed their gratitude and also suggested to conduct such programmes in the future.
Dr KL Meena, Senior Scientist and Head gave away the inputs and certificates to the trainees. During his speech, he emphasised on the need to propagate the IPM module to other farmers and practice it in the field for higher yield. He also stressed that one should be sincere in whatever field activities they are involved in for a productive outcome.
Altogether, 40 (36 male and 4 female) practicing farmers from Pongching, Yaongyimchen and Hukphang attended the 5 days training programme.
