5 firefighters injured after vehicle capsizes

Five firefighters including the driver were seriously injured on Saturday when their vehicle capsized while on their way to Lower Chandmari colony to douse off a house that caught fire.  

The accident occurred around 10 am at the Lower Chandmari junction outside a waiting shed. Source from the Fire department said two of the injured firefighters are currently kept in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) while the other three are undergoing treatment at the Bethel Medical Center.  

The source claimed that the accident occurred due to a brake failure. Lower Chandmari colony residents in the meantime stated that the spot where the accident occurred has a dangerous curve which is accident prone.  

Following the accident, two other fire tender trucks were reinforced to douse the fire which broke out at a private residence in Lower Chandmari, Kohima. The source also stated that the fire is suspected to have started from an electrical short circuit.
