Five youths were arrested on July 7 in Dimapur for extorting from a business brandishing a toy pistol. The arrests were by the Dimapur police Special Operations Team (SoT) acting on a complaint from the Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO).
The youths were extorting money from a petrol pump near Hotel Theja Fort when they were arrested. According to the Commissioner of Police, the five accused were intercepted in a Scorpio (NL01P0205) near the petrol pump alongwith the toy pistol which was used in the commission of crime. They were identified as Asuka, Akheto, Mikato, Toto and Puloto. The police also recovered eight smart phones from their possession.
The DAYO, in a press release, termed the five accused as “misguided youths in the age group of 21-26 years,” who demanded Rs 4000 from the manager of the petrol pump using a toy gun.
While lauding the swift police action, it said, “The DAYO Grievances Cell immediately went into action upon learning of the crime through our HELPLINE and informed Dimapur Police.”
