A 5 year-old boy, who reportedly went missing, was found dead the next day. The incident happened in Seithekima.
As per the preliminary police inquiry, the boy was last seen on June 6 evening playing marbles with a friend.
He reportedly did not return home following which the residents of the neighbourhood formed search parties to look for the boy. The search, which went late into the night, bore no result and was suspended. Meanwhile, no missing report was filed; the police informed only the next morning after the body was discovered.
The police said that it was around 4:00 am when the boy’s body was found from a marshy area located not far from his house. As per the preliminary inquiry, it was his mother and an aunt, who discovered the body disposed inside a gunny bag.
“The body was taken home after which the police was informed,” said a police official. A case under IPC section 302 has been registered at Chümoukedima Police Station and “all angles are being investigated,” the official said while adding that post-mortem report was being awaited.
