Officials and farmers during the training programme on IPM, IDM held at Rusoma on February 21.
Kohima, February 23 (MExN): A training programme was conducted at the IPM Model Village, Rusoma, under the project titled “Establishment of Crop-Based Model IPM Villages for Promotion of Integrated Pest Management Technologies in the NEH Region of India” on February 21.
The programme was chaired by Dr Kevineituo Bier (Co-PI). Project In-charge Prof Bireswar Sinha highlighted the importance of Integrated Disease Management (IDM) in citrus cultivation. He emphasised the need to adopt eco-friendly and sustainable plant protection practices to enhance productivity and ensure long-term soil and crop health.
Dr Bendangsenla Longkumer (Project Assistant) conducted a practical demonstration on the application of biopesticides in citrus and vegetable crops. The session provided farmers with hands-on knowledge of safe and effective pest management techniques.
Dr Laishram Hemanta elaborated on the importance of proper nutrient management in citrus and other major crops grown in the village, stressing balanced fertilisation and soil health improvement to achieve better yield and quality.
Dr Sh Herojit Singh (Co-PI) highlighted the economic importance of citrus cultivation, stating that it plays a vital role in strengthening the rural economy by generating income and employment opportunities for farmers.
A total of 50 farmers actively participated in the training programme and interacted with the experts during the sessions.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Kevitshulie Suokhrie, who expressed gratitude to the resource persons and participating farmers for contributing to the success of the event.
