51st Chakhroma Sports Meet underway

Dimapur, October 23 (MExN): The 51st Chakhroma Sports Meet organized by Chakhroma Youth Organization (CYO) got underway at Medziphema local ground on Friday with Medo Yhokha, Advisor to Chief Minister and Advisor Technical Education & Election as the inaugural guest.

A total of 28 villages from the Angami-Chakhroma Range will be competing in the Football (men) and Volleyball (men & women) events in the week-long meet which will be held from October 23 to 30, a press release from the Media and Publicity committee informed. The oath taking was administered by Atubu Kuotsu, Secretary, Games and Sports, CYO.

In the opening match, Tsiepama Youth Organization overcame Medziphema Village Youth Organization by a solitary goal, scored by Keneizeto(15). In another exhibition match played between Youth Organization Ranges United and ASA/AYO Team, the ASA/AYO team emerged victorious with a score line of 4-3.

Earlier, Medo Yhokha encouraged young sports enthusiasts to persevere for excellence in the sports sector and cited that employability in the government sector is now over saturated in the state. With Nagaland presently recording a high rate of government employees, he stressed that young talents must be explored and channelized into innovative avenues in order to create employability, for which he said; the CSOs have a big role in facilitating such opportunities.

He also stated that there are various means in which the government can facilitate young people in its policies and programmes and that the onus falls on visionary leaders of the community to take up such initiatives.

He further lauded CYO for being pro-active as an organization and also fostering friendly ties with other communities and challenged the Chakhroma youth to work, strive and struggle together towards progress.

ASA President Lhoubeizo Kesiyie conveyed greetings while Vichiituolie Mere, President, CPO lauded CYO for organizing the sports meet in a grand manner. He also expressed hope that the sports meet would usher in unity, goodwill and understanding amongst the people. The programme was chaired by Neizelie Keditsu, while Rev Zhabu Terhiizha invoked God’s blessing and Akhriezo Solo presented a special number.
