The 54th edition of the Jangpetkong Kaketshir Telungjem Mungdang (JKTM) conference commenced on January 15 at Khar Village, Mokokchung, under the theme “Tayimjem Libaliyim” (Encompassing Ethical Values). The three-day event (January 15–17) brings together student delegates from various villages in the Jangpetkong Range of Mokokchung District.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Temjenmenba, MLA and Advisor for Transport and Technical Education, as the inaugural guest and Prof Dr Asangla Lemtur, Head of the Theology and Ethics Department at Caleb Institute, Gurgaon, as the main speaker.

In his address, Temjenmenba expressed concern over the state of affairs of the Jangpetkong Range, comparing it to a patient in the ICU. He remarked, “We lack road connectivity, communication, healthcare, and other essential services,” and called for serious introspection.
He urged the community to honor the sacrifices of pioneers by establishing a Pioneers Park to commemorate their legacy.
Stressing the need for reforms in local self-governance, he proposed empowering village councils as independent republics to drive grassroots development.

Prof Dr Asangla Lemtur elaborated on the theme, highlighting the importance of ethical values in shaping tribal identity and community growth. She emphasized that ethics is practical and transformative, urging the youth to stay informed and grounded in values of integrity and transparency. Dr Lemtur also called for unity and ethical introspection to address divisions within Naga society.
The event witnessed the participation of 425 delegates during its inaugural session. Alemsashi, President of JKTM, delivered the introductory speech, while Lanutoshi Aier, President of AKM, and the Khar Village Council Chairman also addressed the gathering.

The JKTM conference was first held in 1948 at Dibuia Village, while the 53rd conference took place in Mongjen Village in 2022. The 54th edition will conclude on January 17, with Nagaland Minister for Rural Development & SIRD, Metsubo Jamir, attending as the valedictory guest.
