57,918 hectares brought under afforestation

Governor PB Acharya today said that the Nagaland forest development agency under the National Afforestation Programme has brought an area of 57,918 hectares covering 1,161 villages under afforestation so far.

The Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department with the support of various stakeholders has successfully promoted the concept of community based wildlife protection by providing safe passage to the migrating Amur Falcons, he added. The Governor said that Amur Falcon roosting area in the Doyang catchment is being developed as an eco-tourism site.  

The Department has also initiated an Animal Adoption Scheme in the Nagaland Zoological Park, Rangapahar, Dimapur through which it is envisaged to involve all stakeholders in the upkeep of the only zoological park in the state.
