
Team TR Zeliang, Rio meet Governor
Dimapur, March 4 (MExN): The Election Commission of India has directed the cancelation of the “declaration of wrong result issued in favour” NPF candidate in 6-Tening Assembly Constituency.
As a result Namri Nchang of Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has been declared the winner.
The Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland in a press release informed that earlier Namduadi Rangaku Zeliang of Naga People’s Front (NPF) was declared winner “due to wrong tabulation.”
The matter, on March 3, was forwarded to ECI.
On reviewing the tabulation, it was found that Nchang had polled 7018 votes against Zeliang (NPF) with 6850 votes, the release said.
Hence, Namri Nchang (NDPP) has won the seat by margin of 168, it added.
With this win, the NDPP-BJP alliance total seat reached halfway mark at 30, in the 60 members Nagaland Legislative Assembly. With the final tally of 18 for NDPP and 12 for Bharatiya Janata Party
The joining of recently elected independent MLA Tongpang Ozukum and Janata Dal United (JD-U) newly elected legislator G. Kaito Aye has taken the alliance’s tally passed the halfway mark at 32.
Rio, Zeliang stakes claims to Government
Meanwhile, both NDPP-BJP alliance and NPF have staked claim to form the next government in Nagaland.
A press release for Raj Bhavan informed that the Chief Minister of Nagaland, TR Zeliang along with elected NPF MLAs called on the Governor of Nagaland today and claimed to form the next Government as the party has emerged as the single largest party at the recently conducted General Elections to the 13th NLA.
The Chief Minister also stated that he enjoyed the support of other elected members, said the release issued by PRO to Governor.
“Governor Acharya has instructed TR Zeliang to prove his majority by bringing the letter of support from the supporting MLAs,” it added.
Acharya further stated that “once he is satisfied that a party has the majority; he will act according to the Constitution of India.”
The NDPP-BJP alliance led by former Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio along with General Sectary BJP and North East in-charge, Ram Madhav also called on the Governor to stake claim to form the government.
The two leaders were accompanied by Independent MLA (elected), Tongpang Ozukum, Janata Dal United MLA (elected), G Kaito.
“Neiphiu Rio expressed confidence that the NDPP and BJP alliance would be able to form a stable government in the State as the numbers were on their side,” stated another press release from Raj Bhavan.
Rio stated that the alliance has bagged 30 seats and has the support of one independent and one JD (U) MLAs taking the number to 32 seats, it added.
