During the course of precautionary measures to check COVID-19 (coronavirus) in Manipur, over 60,000 individuals visiting the state have been screened.
Out of samples of 10 people tested, nine turned out to be negative for coronavirus and the result for an individual is awaiting, while 377 individuals are under surveillance, said Manipur Health director K Rajo on Sunday.
The Health director was speaking at a media sensitisation cum launching of Phase IV of Intensified Mission Indradhanush held at the conference hall of state directorate of Family Welfare in Imphal.
Dr Rajo said that as preventive measures to check coronavirus in the state, five centres have been opened in different border towns of the state and at the Imphal International Airport to screen people for the disease.
The centres have so far screened over 60,000 people entering the state from outside the state including across the international border.
The Health director said that so far there is no vaccine for prevention or treatment of COVID-19. The only way to protect from infection by this dreaded disease is to take up preventive measures.
“Prevention is better than cure,” he said, highlighting some of the basic preventive measures that can be taken by individuals in this regard.
He also said that to prevent the spread of COVID-19, one must frequently clean hands using alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water. It must be done for 20 seconds. Further, one must covered nose and mouth with a flexed elbow or disposable tissue when coughing and sneezing and avoiding close contact with anyone that has a fever and cough, he added.
COVID-19 is becoming dangerous to health, he added.
