619 villages selected for IFAD project

Minister for agriculture & cooperation G. Kaito Aye today said that Rs. 13.13 crore has been sanctioned under International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) since inception.


Replying to MLA Dr Imtiwapang Aier in starred question, Aye  stated that project has selected 619 villages covering eight districts of the state viz Kohima, Phek, Wokha, Kiphire, Zunheboto, Mokokchung, Longleng and Mon.


FPIC (Free, Prior and Informed Consent) have been conducted in all the project villages covering 8 project districts.
As per the FPIC, a total of 619 villages involving 1, 14, 551 households have consented to the implementation of the project.


PLUP (Participatory Land Use Planning). At present, PLUP is being carried in all the project villages covering eight district and so far 502 villages have been covered under the exercise and 177 villages is still ongoing and remains to be covered.


FIG (Farmers Interest Group): The formation of FIGs in all the project villagers has been started, some districts have completed and some districts are still ongoing. So far, 1389 FIGs have already been formed in 394 villages covering 8 districts.


The minister stated that project will promote FIGs to take up activities under the project and to cover all farming households as beneficiaries. The different FIGS formed in the village in relation to jhum, settled agriculture, TRC and CCA will have a separate Bank Account, to be operated jointly by the chairman/chairperson and treasure.
