Dimapur, June 30 (MExN): The State Excise Department today claimed that it has recovered large haul of illegal liquors and drugs during the month of April- Month and arrested 6369 persons in this connection.
The Deputy Commissioner of Excise (HQ), Limawati Ao in a press note said the arrested individual consist of 87 persons for drug related crimes and 6280 for liquors.
In the category of drugs, the seized items include 1570 Kgs of Ganja, 22 grams of Brown Sugar, 2726 bottles of cough syrup and 110645 tablet capsules of assorted illegal drugs in 82 case detected in that period.
During the same period, the Excise department detected 6280 liquor related cases and seized 160560 bottles of assorted liquor and 7752 litres of illicit liquor, the official said adding that the total market value of the destroyed seized articles amounted to Rs. 2.25 Crores in the market.
The official said all drug peddler were booked under NDPS Act, 1985 while the liquor offenders were penalised under NLPT Act 1989.
In its drive to check and curb illegal sale, possession, smuggling and transportation of liquor or drug in the state, the department is conducting round the clock surveillances, it maintained and urged support and cooperation from the general public.
