67 year old British tourist passes away

An international tourist visiting the Hornbill Festival passed away following a heart attack he suffered on December 7 evening, around the festival site. 

The tourist was identified as 67 year old Nigel Richard Goodman from Bradford, UK. 

Additional SP & PRO, Kohima Police, K Soriso informed that the deceased collapsed at Gate-1 at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama while waiting for the bus at around 4:15 pm; after which he was immediately taken to the first aid stall operated by the Health & Family Welfare Department at the festival site. 

Observing the condition of the patient, he was further referred to a hospital in Kohima.  "At Oking Hospital, Kohima, he was taken to emergency around 5:00 pm. But the condition of the patient worsened and he was declared dead around 7:40 pm in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Hospital," the Police informed. 

In this regard, inquest was conducted by the Magistrate and Police and they reported no circumstances leading to suspicion foul play. With regards to other investigation and formalities, the PRO informed that the body was taken to North Police Station and was kept there for the night. 

Apart from that, a post mortem was reportedly conducted where as per the report the provisional cause of death was Myocardial Infarction or massive heart attack. On further enquiry, the foreigner was accompanied by a guide and was reportedly attending the festival through a travel agency based in New Delhi. It was also likely that he had travelled to India alone. 

After the postmortem was conducted, Kohima North PS and Tourism Department held a send off programme after which the body was handed over to the department. During the devotional service held on Sunday, a prayer was offered for the deceased tourist.

Meanwhile, the PRO also informed that in the light of smooth traffic regulations being undertaken by concerned authorities, as per the police record only 1 major motor vehicle accident occurred during the festival. 

The police said, one accident was reported near the 1st entry gate of the Hornbill festival which involved a tourist vehicle plunging below the road on December 7.
