67th All India Railway Tennis Championship underway

Maligaon, March, 27 (MExN): The 67th All India Railway Tennis Championship, 2021-22 organised by the Northeast Frontier Railway Sports Association (NFRSA) started on March 26 at the NF Railway Tennis Complex, Maligaon, Guwahati. As per a press release from the NFR, it was inaugurated by NFRSA General Secretary Sasanka Sharma, who is also the Chief Personal Officer/Industrial Relation of the NFR. The tournament will conclude on March 30. The participants will compete in 5 events— Men’s Open Singles, Women’s Open Singles, Veteran Men’s Open Singles, Veteran Men’s Doubles & Men’s Team Event.

52 players from 8 Different zones- ICF (Integral Coach Factory, Chennai), SCR (South Central Railway, Secunderabad), CR (Central Railway, Mumbai), SER (South Eastern Railway, Kolkata), ER (Eastern Railway, Kolkata), RDSO (Research Designs and Standards Organisation, Lucknow), NR (Northern Railway, Delhi) and NFR are in the fray.

Star players like Nitin Kirtane from Central Railway who represented India in Davis Cup and also a Dhyanchand Awardee of 2019, along with other national players like Nitin Kumar Sinha (current 11th National ranking, who represented India in the World Railway Championship) from ICF; Prithvi Shekhar (Bronze medallist in Deaf Olympics Mixed Doubles, who represented India in the World Railway Championship) from ICF; Uday Kumar Reddy, who represented India in the World Railway Championship) from ICF; and PC Vignesh (Former National Champion, who represented India in the World Railway Championship) from SCR are also competing, the release added.
