6th Zasinihu Memorial Trophy from November 10

Kohima, October 24 (MExN): The Western Angami Students Union (WASU) is all set to conduct the 6th edition of Zasinihu Memorial Trophy 2021 from November 10-13 at Khonoma village under Kohima district.

Zasinihu Memorial Trophy is an acclaimed football tournament of the Western Angami region played biennially under the aegis of WASU in tribute and remembrance of Late Zasinihu Zinyü, the first President of Naga Students’ Federation.

Zasinihu is the eldest son of Dr Khosa Zinyü and Ükieü from Khonoma Village. He was a sports lover and a keen footballer. As a footballer, he represented the then Naga Hills to Manipur and a number of districts in the then undivided Assam.

With the emergence of Naga Nationalism and the declaration of Naga Independence on August 14,1947, the Naga students’ organized themselves under the name of the Naga Students’ Union in 1948 and Zasinihu(Ahu) Zinyü was elected president.

Later on, NSU has changed its nomenclature to Naga Students Federation (NSF). As such, Zinyü was the first president of Naga Students’ Federation, according to WASU.

WASU President, Thekrusevi Meru and Sports Secretary, Ketholelie Naprantsu stated that it is compulsory for all the units under WASU to participate in the tournament. The tournament is open to any team/clubs under Western Angami area/village.
