7-Day Gandhi Shilp Bazaar begins at Dimori Cove

Kohima, December 1 (MExN): The Gandhi Shilp Bazaar, a week-long event showcasing handcrafted products from the North East, was inaugurated today at Dimori Cove Resort, Kipfuzha, Kigwema, Kohima. The event was graced by Commissioner and Secretary of Sericulture, and Team Leader of NEPED, Nagaland, K. Libanthung Lotha (IAS), who served as the special guest.

Esteemed guests included Padmashri awardee Neihunuo Sorhie, Additional Director of DICC Y. Lipongse Thongstar, Director-in-Charge of IGNOU Kohima Dr. Mayonmi Shimray, Assistant Director of the Handicrafts Service Centre (HSC) Kohima Rima Sonar, and HPO Rajib Chandra Roy from the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts).

The bazaar, running from December 1 to 7, aims to promote the work of artisans across the North Eastern region, providing a platform for them to display and sell their crafts. Rima Sonar highlighted the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts)’s commitment to fostering the growth of Indian handicrafts globally. She praised the artisans for their efforts in preserving traditional crafts while advocating for sustainability and innovation in the sector.

With participation from 50 artisans representing various northeastern states, the event is expected to attract significant footfall, offering artisans enhanced visibility and boosting their sales. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience the rich cultural heritage of Nagaland and the surrounding region through its crafts.

The inauguration concluded with a vote of thanks from Rajib Chandra Roy, who expressed gratitude to the chief guest and other dignitaries for their presence and support. The Gandhi Shilp Bazaar promises a vibrant celebration of the region’s artisanal excellence over the next seven days.
