Wokha, January 12 (MExN): The 74th Sports Tournament organised by the Sanis Range Sports Association (SRSA) concluded on January 10, with Nitsiyan FC, Yimparasa Village and Hayi Sporting Club-A winning top honours.
In football, defending champions Nitsiyan FC retained the title, while Sunglup Sputnik finished runners-up.
In men’s volleyball, Yimparasa Village Volleyball Team emerged champions after defeating Bhandari Village Sporting Club in the final.
Hayi Sporting Club A, Sanis Village, emerged champions in the women’s volleyball, while Baghty Valley Elite Team finished second.
Individual awards included Highest Goal Scorer to Yiben Ezung of Nitsiyan FC and Football Player of the Tournament to Sentisang of Sunglup Sputnik. Mukunda of Bhandari Village Sporting Club was adjudged Men’s Volleyball Player of the Tournament, while Chumyani Kikon of Hayi Sporting Club A won the Women’s Volleyball Player of the Tournament award. The Emerging Player of the Tournament (Women’s Volleyball) was awarded to Sukumbeni Kikon of Soku Students’ Union.
Meanwhile, gracing the closing ceremony as the special guest, R Philip Yanthan, SDPO Bhandari, congratulated the players for their discipline and commitment throughout the tournament. He encouraged them to maintain the same enthusiasm in the future, pursue excellence in education, respect elders, obey parents, contribute positively to society and foster healthy social relationships.
Lichioyanthan, Senior Advisor, SRSA, chaired the event, while the association’s Games and Sports Secretary, Longshithung Yanthan, proposed the vote of thanks.
In a press release, the SRSA expressed gratitude to donors, individuals and well-wishers for their support and contributions, which it said were instrumental in the successful conduct of the tournament.
