
Kohima, June 3 (MExN): The 78th Battalion CRPF celebrated 32nd Raising Day and Foundation Day at Zubza headquarters on May 31 and June 1. Officers, jawans and families with the local people participated in the celebration.
The Raising Day celebrations on June 1 began with paying floral tributes to the “martyrs” of the Force. Wreaths were laid by officers and men at the Jai Jawan Memorial structure at Unit HQ, which was followed by a ceremonial Guard of Honour and hoisting of CRPF flag at the Unit Quarter Guard. Unit Commandant Neeraj Yadav and senior officers also planted saplings in the camp.
A press release further informed that three ‘Bambusa’ restaurants constructed at Unit HQ with expertise of local people were inaugurated by Niketu Iralu, Social Activist and renowned writer and resident of Zubza.
As part of the celebrations, an inter-Coy volleyball, basketball, badminton tournaments were organized at Unit HQ on May 30. The final matches were held on May 31. This was followed by an informal gathering of officers and jawans during which grievances of the latter were redressed, the release said.
A special Sainik Sammelan was addressed by the Unit Commandant on May 31, wherein all officers and jawans were briefed about the significance of the Raising Day and the history of CRPF in general and 78th Bn in particular. A presentation highlighting the major achievements of the Unit, list of medal recipients and martyrs of the unit, prepared by the Unit Commandant, was also screened.
According to the release, the Unit has a glorious and proud history of major operational achievements and a list of seven recipients of President’s Police Medal for Gallantry. Hence, the Unit Commandant has coined a new motto for the Unit in Hindi – “Veer Nidar Athhathar”, which means “Courageous, Fearless 78 Battalion.”
The celebrations culminated with a colourful gala called ‘Sangeeth Sandhya’ (Musical Night and Cultural Programme) presented by the men of 78th Bn. Prizes were distributed to all participants of the cultural programme, while trophies were presented to winners of various Inter Zone, Inter Sector, Inter-Range, Inter Battalion and Inter Coy Sports competitions.
A special prize was also presented to ‘F’ Coy, which was adjudged the best Coy of the Battalion.
