The Raising Day celebrations began by paying floral tributes to the brave martyrs of the Force who sacrificed their lives in the line duty. Wreaths were laid at the magnificently erected Jai Jawan Memorial structure at Unit Hq, which was followed by a ceremonial Guard of Honour and hoisting of CRPF Flag at the Unit Quarter Guard.
The Commandant briefed the men about significance of the day and informed that initially the force was raised under British rule on July 27, 1939 at Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh as “Crown Representative Police”.
After independence, Sardar Vallaba Bhai Patel, the first Home minister considering the value and importance of the force and the versatility of the force, decided not to disband the British force. Rather keeping in view the requirement of the nation, he rechristened the Crown Representative’s Police as “Central Reserve Police Force” as an Armed Force under the Union of India.
To mark the day, various sports and games competitions like Inter-Company Badminton, Debate competition for Jawans and a painting competition for children were organized.
