7th Economic Census: Pace of data collection poor in five districts in Nagaland

‘Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung, Phek and Peren may not finish survey on time’
Kohima, February 4 (MExN): Nagaland state Commissioner & Secretary, IT KD Vizo briefing on the status of the ongoing 7th economic census in all the districts said that “five districts in Nagaland namely Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung, Phek and Peren are performing very poorly.”
Addressing the meeting on 7th Economic Census at the Chief Secretary Conference Room, Secretariat, Kohima held on February 4, the Commissioner & Secretary added that since the economic census have to be completed by March 31, 2020 and “with the pace the five districts are collecting the data they may not be able to finish it at the stipulated time.” However, he mentioned that other districts like Mon, Tuensang, Wokha, Zunheboto, Kiphire and Longleng are performing very well.
According to a DIPR report, the meeting convened by Chief Secretary and Chairman, State Level Coordination Committee (SLCC) Temjen Toy discussed matter concerning latest district-wise survey updates, erroneous payment of commission by the CSC e-Governance Services India Ltd into the bank accounts of the Supervisors of the 7th Economic Census and the difficulties faced by the Deputy Commissioners.
Commissioner & Secretary Economic & Statistics, Kelei Zeliang commenting on the fund position on the ongoing economic census stated that due to 40% release of fund by the Ministry only for residential supervisor and residential enumerators and deduction of income tax, no payment to supervisors and enumerators could be made so far. He therefore requested the Chief Secretary who is also the chairman of the committee to write to the non performing five districts DCs to accelerate the ongoing census work and also to the Ministry to release the amount for both commercial and residential and that Nagaland should be exempted for income tax.
Chief Secretary Temjen Toy assured the committee members that necessary action will be taken and letters will be intimated to the Ministry and the DCs.
