8 arrested in connection to Dzükou valley fire produced before Court

Eight people who were arrested in connection to a fire which broke out in southern part of Dzükou valley on November 26 were produced before the Court by Kohima police on November 28.

They were detained at Khuzama police station on November 26 on allegation that the fire that broke out at the Dzükou valley spread from their campsite. An FIR was later lodged by the Southern Angami Youth Organization. Kohima Police PRO on Thursday told The Morung Express that the eight people were produced before the Court on November 28 and have been remanded in police custody for 72 hours. He said the matter now rests before the Court.  

The eight arrested, were part of the 15 team from the Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA) who went to Dzükou valley in connection with the ongoing Manipur Sangai Festival.  

According to a report in The Sangai Express, the eight mountaineers of MMTA which include two girls fled towards Nagaland side of Dzükou valley after a wild fire broke out in the valley. The team leader of the MMTA has since then claimed their innocence.
