Newmai News Network Imphal | October 16 Manipur Governor, Dr Najma Heptulla and Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh accorded a rousing reception today to the eight Manipur players, who had participated in the U-17 FIFA World Cup. Goalkeeper M. Dheeraj Singh, Th. Boris Singh, Ninthoinganba Meetei, Nongdamba Naorem, Md. Shahjahan, W Suresh Singh were present at the reception programme. Team Captain Amarjit Singh Kiyam and Th. Jeakson Singh (the first goal scorer for India in FIFA tournament against Columbia) could not attend the programme due to prior engagement. At the reception, Governor Dr. Najma Heptulla said that it would be her endeavour to promote sports, football in particular, like it is done with cricket. The players were also given a warm reception at the Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s official residence. The CM also handed the cash award of Rs. 5 lakh each to the players, which was earlier announced by the state government.
