8 KSC students participate in Solidarity Students’ Exchange Programme 2019
Students of Kohima Science College during their participation in the Solidarity Students’ Exchange Programme.
KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 22 (MExN): Eight girls from Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, Nagaland participated in the Solidarity Students’ Exchange Programme with Sophia College for Women, Mumbai University, Maharashtra from September 8 to 15.
They interacted with the faculty and students of the partner college and attend classes in the chemistry, microbiology, zoology & life sciences laboratories. They got a glimpse of research as a profession at the prestigious Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, insights into organic farming, vermicomposting, biogas plants and medicinal plants at the KeshavShrishti, and an overview of how to run an NGO with CEO of Bombay Community Public Trust, Delnaz Paliwalla.
They visited various heritage sites such as the Gateway of India, Nehru Science Centre & Planetarium, Taraporewala Aquarium, Global Vipassana Pagoda and Mani Bhavan & Museum. They experienced the local Maharashtrian culture through home visits, and also performed traditional Naga songs and dance at the college.
The primary objective of Solidarity Students Exchange Program (SSEP) is to empower young women from low-income backgrounds who demonstrate exceptional academic aptitude and knowledge of their respective culture(s). It is an initiative co-designed by the Indian National Fellowship Centre (INFC), co-founded by the former Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya, and Dr. K&T Keditsu Foundation, a registered public charitable trust with one of its primary objectives to empower women through education.
