8 Nagaland Tribal Hohos appeal ENPO to join hands with rest of Naga community

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 8 (MExN): Eight Tribal Hohos from Nagaland have appealed to the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) to reconsider their stance on the demand for Frontier Nagaland and “join hands with the rest of the Naga community.”

A joint statement from the Angami Public Organization, Ao Senden, Lotha Hoho, Chakhesang Public Organisation, Pochury Hoho, Rengma Hoho, Sümi Hoho, and Nagaland Zeliang Public Organisation reminded that the Naga people have a rich history of unity and resilience in their quest for self-determination.

“For over half a century, various Naga tribal groups have come together to pursue their collective aspirations, facing numerous challenges and sacrifices along the way. The Indo-Naga political issue has remained unresolved, despite decades of negotiation between the Government of India and Naga National political groups. Despite setbacks and challenges, the Naga people have remained steadfast in their commitment to achieving a just and honourable solution to their political aspirations,” they said.

The hohos noted that in recent times, there have been discussions within the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) regarding the pursuit of a separate "entity." While recognizing the historical and cultural significance of ENPO's concerns, they said it is essential to consider the broader context of the Naga struggle for self-determination. “The Naga people have long dreamt of a united and inclusive future where all Naga tribes stand together in pursuit of their common goals,” they said.

The Hohos asserted that the strength of the Naga movement lies in its diversity. “The various Naga tribes bring unique perspectives, traditions, and experiences to the table, enriching the collective struggle for self-determination. However, this diversity should not be a cause for division but rather a source of strength and resilience. By standing together, united in their shared vision for the future, the Naga people can overcome any obstacles that stand in the way of their aspirations,” they added.

“Now more than ever,” they said it is crucial for all Naga tribes to stand united in the pursuit of self-determination. The Hohos added that any further disintegration or fragmentation of the Naga family would only serve to weaken the collective resolve and delay the realization of their shared goals.

The hohos urged all not lose sight of the “fundamental principle that unites us all—the right to self-determination.” “Let us draw strength from our shared history, culture, and aspirations as we work towards a future where all Naga tribes can live in peace, harmony, and dignity. Together, we can overcome any challenges that lie ahead and pave the way for a brighter tomorrow for generations to come,” they asserted.
