Kohima, November 25 (MExN): Eight Sümi women who secured MBBS seats in government colleges in 2018 were honoured at the 1st Annual Dr Toshevi Sümi Totimi MBBS Award held on November 24 at Hotel De Oriental Grand, Kohima.
Dr. Toshevi Sümi Totimi MBBS Award is an initiative of Dr Toshevi Keditsu Sema and is officiated by Dr K and T Keditsu Foundation in collaboration with Sümi Totimi Hoho, Nagaland, a press release here stated.
Dr Toshevi Keditsu Sema completed her MBBS from Gauhati Medical College in 1977 becoming the first woman doctor among the Sümi tribe. Speaking on behalf of the Awardees and their families, Dr Hokishe Kiho thanked Dr Toshevi Keditsu and the Foundation for their interest in uplifting Sümi women in particular.
He recognised the efforts of the Sümi Totimi Hoho for ensuring that the award selection process was smooth. Khegholi K. Chophy, President, Sümi Totimi Hoho (APEX) stated that Dr Toshevi's father Lukhashe Chishi was a visionary whose investment in the education of his daughter is bearing fruit in the form of this award.
She challenged all parents to spur their children to pursue studies sincerely. Dr Vinito Chishi, President, Sümi Hoho, Kohima remarked that this award joined national and global efforts to empower women education. Ghovili K. Achumi, President, Kohima Sümi Totimi Hoho expressed solidarity with this cause and pledged to continue working together for future awards. She expressed hope that this award would encourage more young Sümi women to pursue education seriously.
The eight recipients of the Dr. Toshevi Sümi Totimi MBBS Award 2018 are Mughatoli Shikhu Swu, Khelito K. Awomi, Felika Y Chishi, Loinoli X. Yeptho, Vipitoli H. Kiho, Limugha S. Kiho, Akina P. Jimo and Kavitoli I. Aye.
A prayer of blessing for the awardees was said by Kitoshi Kiba, Associate Pastor (Women), Sümi Baptist Church, Kohima. Topeni Assumi delivered the vote of thanks and the event was chaired by Yekatoli Chisho. This award is presented annually to Sümi women who qualify to study graduate medical course (MBBS) in government colleges through National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and comprises a cash prize of Rupees One Lakh.
