Kohima, February 17 (MExN): The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Regional Centre Kohima celebrated its 33rd convocation at the Capital Convention Centre, Kohima on February 17.
In the convocation, a DIPR report stated that 820 graduating students were conferred with their degree in different streams including 447 master degree, 142 bachelor degree, 128 diplomas and 103 certificate under Kohima Regional centre.
Regional Director, Dr T Iralu in his brief report highlighted about the progress of IGNOU Kohima centre and stated that the 33rd Convocation of the University, a total of 2,31,622 Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates including a few M.Phil and Ph.D. research degrees will be conferred on successful students spread all over the country and abroad which includes 90 Ph.D, 19 M Phil, 91,588 Master's Degree, 81,408 Bachelors Degree, 41,275 Diplomas and 17,253 certificates.
Additional Director &HoD, Directorate of Higher Education, Dr. Apeni Lotha said that the university since its inception has been contributing much to the development of higher education. The service extended by IGNOU is not only confined to the country alone but to the oversees as well. She expressed that despite all the hurdles faced to implement the study centre, all the 11 districts now have been upgraded with study centre.
She also urged the regional centre to introduce more subjects and programme like M. Phil and Phd programme, tourism studies, organic farming, sericulture, farming poultry, bee-keeping, nutrition and child care, waste management etc. so that the centre can be a part to contribute in substantial development. IGNOU is an institution where opportunity for those unreached and unprivileged students are provided and cater to the needs of the students. The institute gives an ample opportunity to upgrade the skill in professional field, she added.
She also mentioned that IGNOU needs a wider publicity for awareness of the programme and subjects.
Dr Apeni in her convocation address congratulated the students and learners for their achievement and urged them to contribute with the knowledge they have acquired over the years.
