8th Dr Toshevi Sümi Totimi MBBS Award conferred to 16 aspiring doctors

Kohima, November 21 (MExN): The 8th annual Dr Toshevi Sümi Totimi MBBS Award ceremony was held on November 20 at Putuonuo Hospital, Kohima, felicitating sixteen women from the community for securing MBBS seats through the NEET 2025.

The awardees are Pulokali Aye, Toli Kivi Awomi, Vini K Zhimo, Pithe Swu, Heli H Zhimo, Aka Zhimo, Aliti Zhimo, Olivia K Ayemi, Nini K Yepthomi, Cecily A Jakha, Nitho Swu, H Lino Kinni, Sulika B Rotokha, Vini A Aye, Nivi K Yepthomi, and Inakali T Sema.

According to trustee Dr Keduovinuo, the award is an initiative of Dr Toshevi Keditsu Sema, the first lady doctor from the Sümi tribe of Nagaland who completed her MBBS from Guwahati Medical College in 1977.

The award, comprising a certificate and a cash prize of Rs 2,00,000, is officiated by the Dr K&T Keditsu Foundation in collaboration with Sümi Totimi Hoho, Nagaland. Since its inception in 2018, a total of 70 Sümi women have been acknowledged under this initiative.

The event, witnessed by over 90 attendees, featured addresses from Shiwoto Wotsa, President of Kohima Sumi Hoho, who spoke on behalf of the organizing bodies. Dr I Simon Sumi, father of an awardee, shared remarks on behalf of the parents.

Awardee-2025 H Lino Kinni and Awardee-2019 Dr Kumsutoli Assumi shared their personal experiences and words of encouragement with the gathering.

The programme commenced with an invocation by Newtoli T Jimo, Chaplain of Mount Olive College, Kohima, and was closed with a vote of thanks by Erali Swu Chishi. The musical quartet, Truism, performed songs themed on new beginnings and hope.
