Describing the young people of Nagaland as “energetic, ambitious and courageous”, Advisor to Chief Minister of Nagaland & Chairman, IDAN, Abu Metha said that today, they are writing a different story.

Speaking at the 8th Edition of Handshake Concert at Dr Imkongliba Ao Hall, Raj Bhavan, Kohima on December 3, he remarked that their courage to take on the world is best exemplified in the field of music and art.

Highlighting that the Handshake Concert has travelled to nine countries, he stated that, “it has created platforms for artistes not just from Nagaland but from across the Northeast and the rest of the country”, further giving international platforms for youngsters and musicians to realise their dreams and aspirations.

He spoke about Mari Mathias, one of the performing artistes, who came all the way from Wales as part of the state’s collaboration and partnership with the United Kingdom. For the last few weeks, he also divulged that Mari has been partnering with Seyievinuo Chuzho, a local artiste.

Metha said that both the artistes represent a culture and a heritage that goes back thousands of years and noted that their collaboration has sent “a strong message to the world that music and culture does not know any language.” 

For the last more than 60 years, he further remarked that Nagaland has made great contributions in India’s journey. From excellent bureaucrats to leaders in public service to luminaries in the judiciary, he said, “Nagaland has given our best sons and daughters to the service of the nation.”

Adding that our artists, musicians, actors and cultural ambassadors are making India proud in international locations, he said that the 8th Raj Bhavan Edition of Handshake Concert will also give a little glimpse of that as cultures from across continents merge and the talents of not just Nagas, but Wales, England and the Great Kingdom are celebrated. 

Artistes who performed at the Concert included The Nagaland Madrigal Singers, Phu Ningding Kathar, Mari Mathias, Zayie Zacchaeus, Seyie Intrepid, Eastory and Sunshine Orchestra.
