Organisers of the Unity Cup tournament which began on January 7.
DIMAPUR, JANUARY 8 (MExN): The 8th Unity Cup T-20 Cricket tournament, organized by Nepali Baptist Church Chümoukedima Youth sports Ministry, kicked off in Chümoukedima on January 7 under the theme “Solidarity for peace”.
Vicca S Aye, Vice President, Central Youth Organization, NDPP of Nagaland graced the opening ceremony as the Chief Guest while Shri. John Thakuri, Former Leader Nepali Baptist Church Kohima was the Special Invitee for the said programme.
Chief Guest, Vicca S Aye in his address he encouraged the Gorkhas and said the Unity Cup event as a big beginning and called upon the organisers to continue to create platforms for sportspersons. He said that team work is the need of the hour to bring about positive change in the society. He also wished the organizers and players the very best in their future endeavour.
John Thakuri, Special Invitee encouraged the players to compete in true game spirit which is not only to win but developing sports culture and realizing their hidden talents and strength.
Rohan Sunar convenor of Unity Cup in his Welcome address gave a brief highlight on the foundation of Unity Cup.
Meanwhile there was also an Exhibition match between Nepali Baptist Church Kohima Youth Department & Nepali Baptist Church Chümoukedima Youth Department. According to Unity Cup organizers the exhibition match was also an initiative of Unity Cup to encourage young generation in games and sports in Chümoukedima Town. Their vision signifies the players may gain popularity and execute their respective name and fame. We aim at bringing unity in diversity among mass.
Nepali Baptist Church Kohima Youth beat Nepali Baptist Church Chümoukedima Youth Department by 3 Wickets in the Friendly exhibition match. NBC Cmd YD batted first and set up a target of 107 runs in the 20 overs Match with Jacob Sundas scoring 26 run for the team. Robi of NBCK YD scored 37 runs & took 3 wickets for his team chasing the target, and he was adjudged the man of the match for his Knock.
All together 28 teams have registered and shall be playing for the 8th edition Unity Cup.
