From 96 posts vacant in police department; only 28 advertised: RTI

231 non-Nagas recruited from 2013-16 through direct appointment

Out of 96 vacant post resulting from retirement between 2013-15 in the Nagaland Police Department, only 28 post was advertised for open recruitment, a RTI response from the Office of the Director General of Police, Kohima, a copy of which was made available to The Morung Express, has revealed.  

According to the response furnished by PIO, PHQ Kohima to an RTI filed by one Vikheto Zhimomi, 74 ABSI, 10 UBSI and 12 ASI retired from 2013-2015, which comes to 96 posts vacant.  

From this, only 28 posts were advertised for recruitment on June 19, 2015, the RTI response said. Of the remaining vacant 68 posts, no information has been provided.   Subsequently, the examination for the June 19 advertisement was stayed/cancelled due to stay order for direct recruitment received from the High court, Guwahati, Kohima Bench on August 18, 2015, the RTI response stated.  

Here, the RTI petitioner observed that no case number on the High Court order was furnished in the response. The petitioner also maintained that no information on the stayed/cancelled order of the High Court was communicated to the 4888 aspiring candidates (4087 male and 801 females) who applied for the positions vacant.  

Further, the RTI response also revealed that 231 numbers of non-Nagas were appointed between 2013-2016 March in the rank of constable, sweeper, cook, tailor, washer man, cobbler, NCE, driver, blacksmith, handyman, skill labour, barber, mechanics and painters directly without any advertisement or by way of open recruitment.  

Stating that thousands of dropout and educated unemployed youth are searching for job from post to pillar, the RTI petitioner questioned the employment opportunity provided to non- Nagas.
