9th AGBCN Annual Conference held

Kohima, January 29 (MExN): The 9th Annual Conference of the Association of Gorkha Baptist Churches Nagaland (AGBCN) was held from January 20 to 22 at Sechü-Zubza in Kohima district under the theme “Holding on to Jesus”. Hosted by Nepali Baptist Church, Sechü (Zubza), the conference was attended by around 400 delegates from 38 affiliated Nepali and Gorkha Baptist Churches spread all over the State.  

According to a press release, the main speakers during the conference were Founder & Director of Youth Harvest Ministry, Dimapur, Rev. Kilang Jamir, and Director of Eleutheros Christian Society, Tuensang, Phutoli Shikhu Chingmak while resource persons for Bible study were Pastor Robert Aley of NBC Chumukedima and Pastor Joshua Gurung of Mon Town GBC.  

The main speakers delivered the messages on the topics “Christ our foundation: Planted and build in Christ” (I Peter 2:4-8); “The Church in a changing culture” (I Thessalonians 4:4-11); “The Church with a mission” (Luke 4:18-19) and “Anticipating the future” (2 Peter 3:11-13). The resource persons for Bible study dwelled on the topics “The Lord’s Prayer” (Mat 6:9-13) and the Book of 2 John.  

Greetings were extended by Pastor of Sechü (Zubza) BC Khriengulie Kuotsu, Director of Operation North East Christian University Huzo Meru, Managing Director Mezhür HSS Kohima Atuo Mezhür, Pastor of Konyak BC Kohima H. Moba Konyak, Proprietor Christian Mission School Sechü (Zubza) Rüüngutuo Sechü and Pastor of Chang Baptist Lashong Kohima S. Anungla Chang.  

On the first day, Rev. Krishna Sundas, Pastor GBC Niuland unfurled the AGBCN flag which was followed by hoisting of the flags by respective churches while opening spotlight was presented by the host church and AGBCN Chairman Gopal Basnet delivered the keynote address. The closing day on January 22 evening was marked by a skit by Women Fellowship of NBC Kohima. Honouring of the special guests was led by AGBCN Executive Secretary Rudra Ramauli. Besides, the services, the annual general meeting of the AGBCN was held on January 21, wherein reports of the Executive Secretary, different departmental secretaries and treasurer were also presented. The House approved the names of the new AGBCN staffs including Executive Secretary Santabir Rai, Church & Mission Secretary Hari Magar, and Youth Secretary Shishir Lama. The names of the new staff were proposed by the Nomination Committee headed by Pastor Robert Aley.  

The farewell service for outgoing AGBCN staffs Executive Secretary Rudra Ramauli and Youth Secretary Mimla Rai as well as the installation service of new AGBCN staff was also held during the three-day conference. However, the official handing and taking over will be held on February 25.  

Meanwhile, the AGBCN has expressed appreciation to the host Church, well-wishers, speakers, resource persons, exhorters and all the delegates from different Churches for making the conference a grand success. The decadal celebration, i.e., the 10th annual conference of AGBCN will be hosted by NBC Tuensang in January 2018.
