Medziphema, September 7 (MExN): The ninth edition of the Biennial Interschool Football Tournament, organised by the Medziphema Town Students' Union, kicked off at the Local Ground, Medziphema on Monday.
The opening ceremony was attended by school heads, community leaders and representatives of various NGOs, with Mr Viphrulie Krose attending as the special guest.
A total of 11 teams — seven in the High School section and four in the Higher Secondary section — are competing for the two trophies.
In the opening match, Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) defeated King David Higher Secondary School 6-0.
GHSS dominated from the opening whistle, displaying greater physical strength and footballing ability throughout the match.
In the second match, Modern Christian School (MCS) defeated Rivenburgh School 8-2.
The match began on an even footing, but MCS gradually took control through better teamwork and technical ability.
In the third match, St Francis de Sales Higher Secondary School (SFSHSS) defeated Assam Rifles Public School (ARPS) 7-1.
SFSHSS displayed strong tactical organisation and skill throughout the match to secure a convincing victory.
Earlier, an exhibition match was played between GMS Medziphema (Kuki) and GMS Medziphema Town, with GMS Medziphema Town emerging victorious.
The tournament will continue on September 8, with St Francis de Sales Higher Secondary School taking on King David Higher Secondary School in the afternoon match.
Modern Christian School will face Chakhroma Baptist Mission School in the evening match.
